Converting Your Own "Eclipse Shield Generator"

This is a simple how-to for a counts-as Eclipse Shield Generator.

I needed a shield generator that had sufficient pizazz to pass for the Eclipse. Otherwise my Ralai counts-as would not be sufficiently kitted out. Here is how I made it.

You will Need...

  • 2 Gun Drone Chassis
  • Paper Clip
  • Pin Vice and Drill Bit
  • Modeling Knife
  • Clippers
  • Superglue
  • Greenstuff (for emblem)

Step 1: Shield Orbitals

Cut the outer ring off of a gun drone in three pieces. For this step you could also cut your own orbitals out of plasticard or a small diameter PVC pipe.
Were I to do this over again I likely would have opted for the PVC pipe. Shaving the gun drone body away from the orbitals took a long time and was difficult due to lack of surface to hold onto.

Step 2: Assembly

Shave the guts out of your other gun drone so that whatever arm you are using, fits into the drone like a shield. Drill holes into the shield and orbitals so that they will be positioned how you want them around the shield. Glue pieces of paper clip into the holes and then the orbitals onto the paperclip.

Step 3: Emblem

This step is completely up to you. My cadre is based on Bork'an so I wanted the Bork'an symbol on his shield. You simply flatten some green stuff over the drone's top surface, then put whatever shape you want into it.
I used a marker cap and pen nozzle to press the circles I wanted into the thin layer of green stuff. I then scraped away the putty outside of the emblem that I did not need anymore.

Finished Product

Step one takes the longest of the three, and is the most difficult. You could use more pins or different orbitals, or even a completely different base for the shield. I hope this helps somebody else, this doesn't even have to be an eclipse generator, you could treat it like a regualar shield generator for your commander

Enjoy!
